EXPLORING FORM:  An American Sculptor The life and sculpture of John Edward Svenson

Exploring Form

For more that 60 years, artist John Edward Svenson has been creating sculpture that reflects his passionate interest in natural structure and the laws of form.  Svenson’s love of nature and mastery of his materials is evident throughout his large body of work, which ranges form small intimate woodcarvings to publicly commissioned pieces on a monumental scale.

In “Exploring Form”, Svenson’s son David gives the reader a compelling account of the motivations and thoughts that lead his father to create his complex but deeply romantic art.  From crafting his own toys as a child in rural California to achieving national acclaim as a sculptor.  Svenson has devoted his life to following his own muse, and this book showcases his artistic invention and command in a variety of media.

“Exploring Form” is both a lavishly illustrated celebration of Svenson’s work and a fascinating personal look at the working life and methods of an amazing American artist.
